If you plan on putting your house on the market soon, there’s more to do than contacting me, your real estate representative, and letting me know you’re ready to sell.
In fact, before your house is even
on the market, you may need to spruce it up.
One of the first things you should do is consider curb appeal.
This is a real estate term that refers to making your house look great from the curb.
After all, this will be the vantage point from which potential buyers will get their first impression of your house.
And if the outside looks inviting, they’ll want to see the inside, too.
So, to encourage them, make sure your exterior paint looks its best.
Also keep the yard well maintained, and if the weather allows, set some potted flowers around the front door.
Inside the house, remember two words:
bright and spacious.
You may want to paint the rooms in neutral colors as these hues will not only appeal to the largest number of people, but they’ll also make each room appear larger.
Also, tale down any heavy curtains and replace them with lightweight sheers.
Put the highest wattage bulbs possible in each light fixture, and give the windows a good cleaning both inside and out.
You’ll also want to remove excessive miscellaneous items from around the house.
For example, if the food processor sits on the counter but you don’t use it very often, stash it in a cabinet.
Likewise, in the bathroom, put your everyday toiletries in bins, then hide them under the sink so they’ve out of sight but still easy to reach.
While these are just a few ideas, I’ll be happy to give you more advice about how to make your home more marketable.
